Description
SBR Sewage Treatment Plant
The SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor) Sewage Treatment Plant is a biological wastewater treatment system where the main treatment stages take place within the same reactor in a controlled sequence.
The typical cycle includes filling, aeration, settling and decanting. During aeration, microorganisms break down organic matter in the sewage. The biological solids are then allowed to settle before the treated water is removed from the reactor.
SBR systems are suitable for applications where wastewater flow varies throughout the day and where a compact biological treatment system is required.
🔑 Key Features & Benefits
- Batch Treatment Process – Filling, aeration, settling and decanting are carried out in a controlled sequence.
- Combined Reactor – Biological treatment and settling can take place within the same tank.
- Compact Design – Requires fewer separate process tanks compared with some conventional systems.
- Good Treatment Performance – Designed to reduce BOD, COD and suspended solids.
- Variable Flow Handling – Suitable for sites with fluctuating wastewater flows.
- Automatic Operation – Treatment cycles can be controlled automatically using timers, PLCs and level controls.
- Flexible Cycle Times – Operating cycles can be adjusted according to wastewater loading.
- Suitable for Water Reuse – Additional filtration and disinfection can be included for reuse applications.
⚙️ Process Flow
- Inlet Screening – Removes larger solids and debris.
- Collection / Equalization – Provides flow balancing before the SBR reactor.
- Fill Stage – Wastewater enters the SBR tank.
- Aeration Stage – Blowers supply oxygen for biological treatment.
- Settling Stage – Biological solids settle at the bottom of the reactor.
- Decant Stage – Clarified treated water is removed from the upper part of the tank.
- Disinfection – Chlorination or UV can be provided where required.
- Treated Water Storage – Stores treated water before reuse or discharge.
